ROAM NOTEWORTHY NURSE AWARD – NOMINATION CRITERIA

As a RN and someone who is seeking daily to serve others, I know what a privilege it is to serve. God gave me a servants heart and I’ve seen and experienced it in so many of the nurses I’ve met over the years. Do you seek out opportunities to serve in your communities as well as others communities and even countries? I know for me its a daily thought. I look around my house and think who can use this? Who would this help? Where can I be of use? As Robert would say, “Its how I’ve always known you to be”.

ROAM is looking for other nurses that are weaved from that same fabric. Someone who doesn’t have to plan to help others once a year to check a box but wakes up and goes to bed wanting to give and serve others. This daily giving may be in a very structured way such as tutoring, feeding the homeless etc and/or may be unstructured daily giving by dropping off old towels at an animal shelter, taking clothes to non-profits, giving furniture to shelters, reading with school aged children, giving out waters to our homeless friends, responding after natural disasters and on and on……

We know many times nursing is thankless and volunteerism goes unnoticed. We also know most of you don’t do it for accolades. However, we would like to recognize and thank you in a BIG way. If you or someone you know fits the criteria below, please submit a nomination letter on why this person should receive this award. Along with the award, there will be approximately $500 worth of prizes given to the recipient.

Starting now through midnight on  September 30, 2020 we will be accepting nominations for the 1st annual ROAM NOTEWORTHY NURSE AWARD. Please see criteria before submitting a nomination. This award will be made to a nurse that goes above and beyond to serve outside of their paid position. This nurse should embody compassion and caring. Their passion should not only be their position in a hospital, clinic, surgery center, nursing home, etc. but a desire to give and help others outside of that position. The winner will be picked by a committee and notified via email by October 10, 2020.

NOMINEE must:

  • have current RN or LPN unencumbered license (including APRN, CCRN, etc.)
  • have at least 3 years of experience as a RN or LPN.
  • have a servants heart and be actively involved in serving his/her community.
  • have accrued at least 50 hours of serving in a volunteer position so far this calendar year of 2020.

  • have nominated self or had someone nominate them by submitting name, current career position, ways in which nominee displays a servants heart and hours accrued in volunteerism as listed above. Please also include pertinent information such as email, phone number for both the nominee and the person submitting the nomination, if different. If nominating someone other than yourself, please include how you know the nominee. Nursing license state and number needs to be provided for verification.  This nomination letter should be no more than 300 words.

Thank you in advance to all that will submit a nomination. Even more importantly, thank you to all of those that help breathe life and love into those around you daily. Nurses are true heroes. You are my hero.

RNs On A Mission (ROAM) isn’t just for RN’s. We’d love to have help from a variety of people and occupations. We believe God will use this ministry to provide nurses and others (in a variety of occupations) to help assist in times of crisis such as natural disasters…hurricanes, tornadoes, wild fires etc. or man made issues…helping those that are without food or a home, collecting books for schools, volunteering to help wherever needed etc. This help may be in the form of yard work, bringing in fresh water, providing basic first aid, holding a hand, providing basic necessities and meals, praying with people…whatever the need, just being open and willing to serve.

“For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” Mark 10:45, NIV

We are also looking at international missions as well such as Belize and Peru. These trips would be less spontaneous and planned for with money raised specifically for them. We believe God is going to provide places for us to return to over and over to continue serving each year. Developing a lasting presence within the lives of those that live there and their countries is our goal. Not having just a fly in, serve and fly out mentality is extremely important to us but becoming ever present…spiritually, financially, and physically. We are so very blessed with the freedoms we have to serve.

“You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love.” Galatians 5:13, NIV

We are open to suggestions on places that we can pray about to serve both here in the United States and abroad. We’d love to have several teams ready to go serve locally or in the USA and those that would like to serve on a team abroad. Please let us know if you’re interested in either team or both. Robert and I are looking forward to working alongside friends, family, and the new friends we make along the way…We have some of the most giving and loving people with servants hearts in our circle that also know more people with the same heart to serve.

“Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.” I Peter 4:10, NIV

By His Grace,

Leslie Upshaw
